Control (CNC) - Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM)
CAD/CAM/CNC has been considered as an NC programming tool wherein 3D models of components generated in CAD software are used to generate CNC code to drive numerical controlled machine tools. The process is the use of computer-based software tools that assist engineers and machinists in manufacturing or prototyping product components. CAM is a programming tool that allows you to manufacture physical models using computer-aided design (CAD) programs. CAM creates real life versions of components designed within a software package. Computer numerical control (CNC) is a computer "controller" that reads G-code and M-code commands and drives a machine tool, a powered mechanical device typically used to fabricate components by the selective removal of material. computer numerical control does numerically directed interpolation of a cutting tool in the work envelope of a machine. An entry in this classification will be a combination of both a computer aided drawing w/dimensions and a computer produced or manufactured item.
(Laser Engravings are to be entered in Graphic Arts)
CAD/CAM/CNC (Project Parts) Groups eligible to participate N & P
This classification includes any project in which the machining of the project parts constitutes the major operation with the aid of a computer interface. A complete set of dimensioned CAD drawings must accompany the project. Examples: (Spindles and gears, etc Milled, Routed, Lathe projects.) The entries in this area will not be rated on the artwork of a project but will be rated based on the parts machined and the fit with other parts of the project. of the project must be of original design. Clip art or vector art files downloaded from the internet do not qualify in this category. 75% of the project must cut or machined on a cnc machine. Scoring Guide for CNC

Group (N) - Novice: a person or group who is new to the circumstances, work, etc., in which he, she or they are placed; beginner; tyro: a novice in the entry area.
This entry area is for the 1st year the student has entered in this project area.
Group (P) - Practiced or Experienced: skilled or expert; proficient through practice or experience: a practiced hand at project. This entry area is for the student or group who has entered in this project area more than once.
CNC-01 CIM/CAM (Art Projects) Groups eligible to participate N & P
This classification includes any project in which the machining of artwork constitutes the major operation with the aid of a computer interface as a major part of the project which it will be rated on. (signs, symbols, emblems, Milled, Routed, Lathe or Plasma-cut projects etc.) Metal, wood, combination materials projects maybe entered in the classification. Original student generated projects will be given higher ratings than those of purchased or copywritten clipart files. A complete set of plans must accompany the project. Scoring Guide for CNC-01
